Project: SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS

Location: London

Date: 2015

The Sony World Photography Awards are one of the world’s leading photography competitions, the exhibition showcases the winning and shortlisted photographers from submissions from across all disciplines, from fine art to photojournalism to lifestyle.Recognising and rewarding the world’s best contemporary photography from the last year, the 2015 competition received the highest number of entries in its eight year history – 173,444 images from 171 countries.

Clear curationfor a  big exhibition like SWPA is a necessity,  a process of revealing and evaluating all the components . Zelda Cheatle selected works to be exhibited with a view to how each has been produced, how they will be mediated, interpreted and shown in juxtaposition with one another.

The exhibition with its many categories, competitions, special areas of interest and demands, is contained within the two wings of Somerset House, East and West. Selection, reducing the number of works to fit within the walls, to work together and keep the integrity, momentum and flow of the photographers’ intentions. It is a challenge, a very dynamicand exciting challenge.
